Taffeta

A Customer Purchased This Taffeta Skirt Slip Below:
This was her lovely review------>>
Exactly what I was looking for - finding a slip, let alone a taffeta slip in a store today is almost impossible. No, let me correct that and say it is impossible. The slip is perfect, and arrived carefully packaged in lickety split time. Thank- you very much!

Well, we hope to make the impossible possible.  Taffeta swishes and rustles and is great for coverage because it is opaque.

Why Don't Women Wear Slips Anymore?

Dear E. Jean: Why don't women wear slips any more? I'm a guy who loves to see a silky, lacy slip on a woman, but it seems that no woman ever wears one. How do I ask a lady if she would please wear a slip for me?—Slip Sliding Away

Real Silk Indianapolis

-founded in 1922 by J.A. and L.L. Goodman
-ran knitting mills which manufactured hosiery, lingerie & underwear
-at its peak, their sales volume averaged more than one
million dozen pairs of women's hosiery a year
-owned plants in Linton, Indiana, Georgia and
Mississippi.
-ran into financial difficulties in the early 1930s as a result of the Great Depression -->> taken by the bank
-financial situation began to improve shortly thereafter and Gustav
Efroymson assumed control of the company in 1932.
-Difficulties soon occurred with labor over wage increases which
resulted in a strike in April and May, 1934, that included the arrests of sixteen strikers in Indianapolis.
-The amount of
company profits declined in the early 1940s as a result of the need for silk during World War II, although the company
was instrumental in the manufacturing of parachutes for bombs as well as hosiery for both male and female military
personnel.
After a post-war profit increase, the financial situation again declined in the early 1950s. Gustav Efroymson died in
1946, and control of the company passed to his son, Robert. Under Robert Efroymson's control, the company first
closed its manufacturing operations in Indianapolis and Dalton, Georgia, and a short time later closed all other
manufacturing operations as well. All the machinery was sold except that which was related to direct-to-consumer
selling, and the plant, which was located at 611 N. Park was leased to a printing company. Robert Efroymson also
directed the retiring of all preferred and some common stock and invested the surplus funds in securities. In 1957 Real
Silk Inc. became registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as an investment company, although they
continued the door to door selling of hosiery, lingerie, and other clothing products on a national scale. The company
continues to operate in Indianapolis at 445 N. Pennsylvania. The former plant was converted into apartments in the late
1980s.

Merry Widow
A merry widow is a women's foundation garment that is intended to smooth the waist and stomach area while also pushing up the bust. It is one of a number of garments designed for this purpose. Such supportive garments have largely fallen out of fashion for daily wear, but they are used on formal occasions or as dressy lingerie. Many lingerie stores carry a selection of such underwear, and women should try one if they are thinking of buying it to ensure that the fit is comfortable and that the garment looks good.
The garment is often compared to a corset, since both foundation garments have rigid boning. A merry widow is not designed to fasten as tightly as a corset, however. The garment starts at the chest and ends at the top of the hips. It has half cups to support the breasts, and long garter straps to which hosiery can be attached. Typically, the garment fastens with a hidden zipper, and it is not very adjustable.
